Mr. and Mrs. Sokha Son - Newly Wed.

On July 23, Niroth Mey and Sokha Son have joined together as one. Various family from United States came to Canada to witness the traditional Cambodian Wedding.

I was really excited about this wedding. I have witnessed a traditional Cambodian Wedding right here in Calgary. The marriage had many ceremonies.

The very first thing was the precession. The groom paraded with people outside the house, who brought offerings such as fruit baskets, cakes, candles, flowers and many more. The groom was carrying a silver plate with a sword on top of the plate.  The groom was dressed in a white Cambodian traditional wedding outfit. He was more a like a prince ready to be with his princess. Both wore beautiful wedding attires.

The monk made his statement and prayers for the two of them.  I wish I could have understood what he has said. I figure it would be words of wisdom.

Of course it wouldn't be a wedding without the ring. They both put the rings to one another's finger. The monk was actually teaching the groom how to put the ring on. It was kind of interesting.

The Groom
The Bride
The second part of the wedding, started with both bride and groom changing into different clothing. The Groom wore orange shirt, purple pants, and a gold sash over his chest. The Bride wore a beautiful purple dress and was adorned with gold exquisite accessories.

They both looked amazing.

The ceremony went on. The monk prayed and gave more of words of wisdom.

The Cutting
The Cutting
After the ceremony, people pretended to give the groom and the bride a haircut. I believe the people who participated are the family and close friends.

Third was the sword ceremony. They changed their clothing again. This time the groom wore gold shirt and blue pants and the bride wore a blue dress with gold trimmings. They both looked really good.

The monk delivered another speech and prayers for the couple.

The monk handed them the sword to hold while friends and relatives tied strings onto their wrists.  I believe this symbolizes as a man and wife. Family and friends gave their blessings. It was quite unique.

  2. Arnold .. you have a good eye for finding and capturing the important moments of a once-in-a-lifetime/"no do-overs possible" event like this traditional Cambodian wedding. I also appreciate that your images show that you put some advance thought into depth-of-field rather than just letting the camera choose your aperture. All in all, I think you've done very well .. good job!
